A B2B Team’s Review: Profound

Profound is an answer engine optimization platform. It tracks and improves how your brand appears when a buyer asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini a question instead of running a conventional Google search. The company launched publicly in 2024 and announced a $96 million Series C at a $1 billion valuation in February 2026, saying at the time that it served more than 700 enterprises including Target, Walmart, Figma, Ramp, MongoDB, Chime, and U.S. Bank.

The platform has a measurement side and an execution side. Answer Engine Insights tracks brand and competitor visibility in AI-generated answers. Agent Analytics tracks AI-sourced traffic and attribution across domains. Prompt Volumes provides query-demand and audience signals from licensed, double-opt-in consumer panels. Profound Agents runs automated AEO workflows, including content generation and CMS publishing after approval.

Check the pricing before you book a demo. As of September 2026 the pricing page lists two options: a free Trial covering 10 prompts, run once, on ChatGPT only, and Enterprise at custom pricing with up to nine engines and features such as SSO. The Starter and Growth tiers that most third-party reviews still quote are no longer published. Confirm current terms with the vendor, because this page has moved more than once.

Recurring Measurement Is the Product

Profound’s value is structured monitoring on a schedule, not an occasional question to a general-purpose model. Tracked prompts run daily, and Enterprise covers nine answer engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Claude, and Google AI Overviews. That gives you a repeatable basis for watching mentions, citations, and competitive visibility move.

Repeatable is not the same as perfect. AI answers vary by model, time, geography, personalization, and the vendor’s own retrieval behavior. Treat the output as a directional visibility layer, not a record of what every buyer saw.

Prompt Volumes Is the Real Differentiator

Profound licenses prompt data from established double-opt-in consumer panels covering millions of AI-assistant users who consented to behavior tracking and anonymization. The company says it cleans and models that data for demographic and geographic bias, updates it weekly, and keeps latency under two weeks. You can segment by platform, region, age range, income bracket, intent, and keyword hierarchy.

That surfaces the language your audience uses before they know your brand or category exists. The caveat is methodological. Panel data estimates observed behavior from an opt-in sample. It is not a census of AI-assistant usage. Use it to prioritize research and content work. Do not present it as population-level demand without explaining its source, sampling, and modeling limits.

The Execution Layer Changes the Buying Case

Profound Agents can generate and optimize content, then connect to your CMS to publish approved work without manual transfer. Public integration pages confirm actions in systems including Contentful and Linear. The February funding announcement named HubSpot, Google Workspace, Gamma, Parallel AI, and Vercel.

That makes Profound more than a dashboard. The evaluation question is not whether the platform can generate content. It can. The question is whether its agent workflows survive contact with your content governance, editorial approval, legal review, and brand controls.

How Each Role Uses It

The Marketer. Identify prompts where competitors get cited and your brand is absent, use that evidence to prioritize content or site work, then watch whether visibility moves. This is the clearest fit because marketing already owns the whole chain: topic selection, production, publishing, and analysis.

A cybersecurity marketer might find that AI assistants name three competing vendors in answers about endpoint security for mid-market companies and never mention theirs. The next step is not automatic publication. Validate the intent behind the prompt, decide whether it represents a segment worth winning, identify which source material the engines favor, then build something genuinely useful.

The Researcher. Prompt Volumes surfaces how people frame a problem, how category terms compare, and where informational intent separates from commercial intent. Because the data is panel-derived and modeled, treat it as directional market intelligence. It can shape hypotheses and qualitative design. It does not replace a representative survey, customer interviews, or a tracking study.

Operations. Profound matters more once AEO moves from experiments to a standing program. Operations governs the prompt library, reporting definitions, approval workflows, integrations, access controls, and the route from insight to work management. The pricing page lists Agent Analytics integrations for Akamai, AWS, Cloudflare, Fastly, Google Analytics, Google Cloud Platform, Netlify, Vercel, and WordPress. Validate the live integration catalog, authentication model, and workflow depth during procurement, especially if Slack, Teams, CRM, warehouse, or custom API workflows are requirements.

Weaker fits. This is a marketing platform. Sales may get account research and competitive messaging, but public materials do not establish it as a CRM or sales-engagement tool. Finance gets visibility and traffic metrics, which do not by themselves establish pipeline impact or return. Little in the product maps to HR at all.

Visibility Is Not Revenue

A brand appearing in a high share of tracked prompts is useful evidence. It is not proof that AI search generated qualified traffic, pipeline, or bookings.

Agent Analytics emphasizes AI-sourced traffic and attribution across domains, which helps if you run compatible CDN, analytics, and tagging infrastructure. Ask how the product identifies AI-referred sessions, handles dark traffic and privacy restrictions, separates bot activity from human referral, and connects outcomes to CRM opportunities.

Ask for the Methodology Before You Report the Numbers

Profound describes the source and high-level modeling behind Prompt Volumes publicly, which is more disclosure than most vendors offer. It is still not enough for board reporting. Ask for sampling design, prompt execution conditions, regional controls, model versions, retry behavior, citation definitions, data retention, and how the platform handles answer variability.

Without that detail, visibility figures work as operational indicators. Present them with caveats or corroborating evidence, not as standalone business facts.

The Hard Part Is Prioritization, Not Discovery

AEO platforms surface more potential actions than any team can execute. You will see hundreds of prompts, many competitors, several models, multiple regions, and inconsistent citations. Finding gaps is easy. Deciding which ones matter is the work.

A successful rollout needs a framework that weighs:

  • Prompt demand and audience relevance
  • Commercial intent
  • Brand or product differentiation
  • Existing content and technical site readiness
  • Whether winning the prompt influences a buyer journey worth influencing

That is an operating-model problem as much as a software problem.

Check the Byline on Every Review You Read

AEO vendors publish competitor comparisons routinely, and third-party review sites carry affiliate incentives, incomplete testing, and outdated pricing. Check publication dates, authorship, methodology, and primary sources. That includes this review.

Why Not Just Use ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude?

You can ask a general model what it thinks of your company at no extra cost. You get one response, from one session, one model, one moment. That is a sanity check, not a monitoring program.

Profound sells a fixed prompt set, recurring multi-engine monitoring, visibility reporting, prompt-demand data, and workflow automation. The drafting layer is the most replaceable piece, since your team already has models for ideation and first drafts. The measurement and panel intelligence underneath is what you are actually buying. Whether that justifies the cost depends on how much AI-search visibility is worth to you and whether you can connect the resulting work to commercial outcomes.

Security & Compliance

Profound’s enterprise page states SOC 2 Type II compliance and supports single sign-on through SAML or OIDC. The DPA says the company processes customer personal data on documented instructions and will not retain, use, or disclose it outside the direct business relationship except as law permits. It commits to notifying customers of a qualifying security incident within 72 hours of becoming aware.

The DPA requires security measures aligned with SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST 800-53, or a substantially equivalent standard. That supports a claim of alignment. It does not establish ISO 27001 certification.

Before procurement, request:

  • The current SOC 2 Type II report and its scope
  • Confirmation of whether Profound holds ISO 27001 certification, with certificate scope and expiration
  • A written position on using customer data, prompts, content, or telemetry to train internal or third-party models
  • The subprocessor list, data residency options, backup and recovery commitments, retention schedules, and deletion procedures
  • Identity and access control details, including SCIM availability, role granularity, audit logs, and API security
  • Current Trust Center materials and a penetration testing summary

Data & AI Connectivity

The pricing page lists Agent Analytics integrations with Akamai, AWS, Cloudflare, Fastly, Google Analytics, Google Cloud Platform, Netlify, Vercel, and WordPress, and reserves API access for Enterprise. The broader directory spans content delivery networks, content management systems, lifecycle marketing, marketing intelligence, productivity tools, web analytics, and web search, with public examples including Contentful and Linear.

Profound is strongest inside a marketing-led stack. If you carry significant CRM, warehouse, BI, governance, or custom orchestration requirements, validate the live catalog and API capabilities rather than trusting a static list or a vendor comparison article.

Ratings

DimensionRatingRationale
Usability3.5 / 5Built for day-to-day marketing use, but AEO data is hard to interpret and prioritize without a defined operating model.
Power4.5 / 5Daily monitoring, nine-engine Enterprise coverage, Prompt Volumes, Agent Analytics, and Agents add up to the broadest AEO platform available to enterprise marketing teams.
Flexibility3.5 / 5Meaningful integrations and Enterprise API access, but workflow depth may not reach your CRM, warehouse, BI, and governance requirements.
Cost2.0 / 5The free Trial runs 10 prompts once on one engine, which is a demo rather than an evaluation, and every usable configuration now requires a custom quote.

Best-Fit Roles

Strongest for Marketers, with credible secondary value for Researchers and marketing Operations. Less suited to Sales, Finance, or HR unless you deliberately connect its output to those teams’ systems and metrics.

The Verdict: Measure Movement, Not Proof

Profound is a strong option if you want a structured way to monitor AI-search visibility, understand prompt demand, and turn findings into managed content work. Recurring multi-engine monitoring, panel-derived Prompt Volumes, and an Agent layer that reaches your marketing systems are a combination no competitor currently matches.

The tradeoff is that visibility remains a proxy. A citation in an AI answer may be strategically useful. It is not automatically a qualified visit, an opportunity, or revenue.

Use the platform to measure movement, prioritize work, and build a repeatable AEO practice. Keep people in the loop for strategy, editorial quality, brand risk, compliance, and commercial prioritization. The platform ranks opportunities by visibility. Only your team knows which buyers are worth winning.
